How does In The Hyphen make money?
Five ways:
1. YouTube AdSense: These are “programmatic” ads YouTube automatically inserts at the beginning or in the middle of my videos.
2. Sponsored integrations: These are usually 60- to 90-second ads in the middle of a longform video recorded by me talking about a brand or product. While the brand does get to approve the 60- to 90-second portion mentioning them, they don’t have any control over the rest of the video. They are usually aware of the topic of the video and can choose to sponsor a different video if they do not consider that video “brand-safe.” I also work with an ad network that sells ad placements on some of my video/audio content.
I also place ads from different companies/brands in my newsletter. They have zero control over the content of the newsletter. They just control what the copy/visual advertising product looks like because they created it.
3. Sponsored videos: These are typically short-form videos about a brand or product. These videos are always clearly marked as ads or sponsored content.
4. Memberships: I operate a Patreon where viewers can pay a monthly fee for extra content.
There are also the indirect ways I make money through In The Hyphen, like speaking opportunities or workshops (usually on video strategy) I book, usually thanks for my work with In The Hyphen.
